About Us

Newly Appointed Professor of Nephrology and Urological Surgery

On October 1 2014, I became a professor of the Department of Renal and Genitourinary Surgery at Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine, a position that has been held by Professor Ichiro Tsuji, Professor Tomohiko Koyanagi, and Professor Katsuya Nonomura since its inception. I would like to express my gratitude to all the professors and medical staff in the department who have worked together to make the Department of Renal and Genitourinary Surgery a leader in the field. Thank you very much.

My mission is to further develop the Department of Renal and Genitourinary Surgery at Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine.
For this purpose, I think it is important to recognize that the members of the Department of Renal and Genitourinary Surgery, including myself and my fellow professors, live in a single community. In order to live in this community, each of us needs to contribute to it in our own way and with our own strengths under a defined goal (mission).
I believe that our mission is "to provide world-class urological care through research, education, and medical treatment, while also contributing to community medicine that meets local needs.
I encourage each surgeon to think of his or her own tasks. I have set the following tasks for myself.

Research
I am interested in research that will lead to the elucidation of the mechanisms of disease development and progression, the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods. I will promote research that is highly original and will lead to practical applications.
Education
  • Medical school education: Foster medical students who think independently and learn based on their own awareness of issues.
Contribute to the practice of medical education adapted to the "2023 problem.
  • Graduate education: Present the importance of graduate education to many young doctors and provide opportunities for graduate education.
Clinical Practice
Establish an advanced medical care system by practicing world-class urological surgery and establishing multidisciplinary treatment.
Human Resource Development
We will responsibly train young physicians and female physicians, and produce a large number of human resources who will greatly contribute to the development of urological medicine.
We will also serve as a bridge to the next generation.

I would like to ask each of you to set your own tasks, and by accomplishing them, let us all work together to fulfill the mission of the Department of Nephrology and Urology, Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine, and to further develop the department.

October 2014
